Massac County Busted Mugshots is a private reference service, not a government office. It cannot confirm custody, release a person, post bond, or pull an official booking record. Contact the originating sheriff, police department, court, or corrections agency directly.
Massac Sheriff and Jail
The official starting point for current county custody is the Massac County Sheriff Inmate Listing, which directs visitors to the Massac Sheriff mobile app. For a named booking record or photograph, ask the sheriff to route a written Illinois FOIA request to the designated officer. The reviewed public pages do not post a separate records-unit name, records hours, or sheriff-specific fee schedule.

The Detention Center jail page states that bond can be posted at the facility 24/7 by cash or credit card. That is a bond-posting detail, not a promise that records staff are available around the clock. Confirm current procedures before traveling.
Which Office Holds the Record?
The right contact depends on what happened and which custody state is being checked.
- For a current Massac inmate, use the sheriff app or call the sheriff’s non-emergency line. The app is not a final court record.
- For a county booking record or photo, send a narrow written FOIA request to the sheriff and identify the person and date range.
- For a Metropolis arrest report, use the Metropolis Police FOIA page. It links a police form and says to allow a maximum of five working days.
- For Brookport or Joppa, ask the sheriff which agency is the current records custodian. No verified municipal public blotter was found, and some public contacts conflict.
- For hearings and disposition, use the Massac County courthouse directory and verify the clerk’s current details before visiting.
- For sentenced state custody, use the Illinois Department of Corrections search or IDOC FOIA, not the county roster.
- For federal or immigration custody, use the BOP locator or ICE locator. Neither is a Massac booking-photo source.
Requesting a Record
Illinois FOIA does not require a requester to use a special sheriff form. A clear request can ask for chronologically maintained arrest information under 5 ILCS 140/2.15, the arrest and booking number, receipt and transfer times, charges as recorded, and a booking photograph when available and releasable. Include a name, date range, arresting agency, and any known identifier. Ask for electronic delivery and a fee estimate.
Under 5 ILCS 140/3, a normal written request generally receives a response within five business days, with a possible extension for specified reasons. The first 50 standard black-and-white pages are free under Section 6, with additional pages capped at 15 cents each. Electronic delivery can carry actual medium cost. Verify the sheriff’s current schedule because no local photo fee was published.
